(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Not new to chickens, but recent enough! I started by in 2021 with my first three birds (part of my roommate's flock). Now the flock is just as much mine as hers.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
26 hens and two roos in the coop, 9 babies in a brooder, and 43 eggs in the incubator! We'll keep some of the incubator hens, two friends are also asking for hens, the roosters go to a homestead that processes them for food.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Little bit of this and that - whatever the store has that strikes our fancy and then a bunch of homegrown barnyard mixes.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I love the incubating process and raising babies! But just watching the chickens is so much fun (and the eggs are yummy).
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I've written a middle grade fantasy novel. I love travel, photography, reading, and watching video essays about bad movies.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I have an orange girl cat that is my spoiled indoor baby! I'm working towards certification for foster care. My career is as an early childhood educator.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
