So I actually got chickens for the first time around 8 months ago. We have 12 or 13 depending on whether or not the turkey I have is a chicken or not. I have 3 "California tan" chickens (one of them is our rooster), 1 very beloved Cornish cross named Chunky, and then, a "Mystic" Maran, a Barred Rock, an Orpington, a Black Sexlink, an Australorp, a "Diamond Duchess", a "Sapphire Sky", and finally a Gold Laced Wyandotte. My favorite aspect of raising chickens is by far getting to hang out with them. They're so fun to watch. Some of my other hobbies include walking through nature and fishing. My dad was the one who got me my chickens. We researched enough to know how to keep them but not enough to know to stay away from Cornish crosses. So our first chicks were 3 Cornish crosses, one of which expired in the night, and another expired 4 months later from what was likely heatstroke.
We ended up getting 2 California tans a couple days later. It's definitely been a rocky journey but luckily we've only lost 2 chickens, both Cornish crosses. Our 3rd Cornish is still going strong for now. Sorry if I ranted, I sometimes do that. I look forward to learning more.

Glad you joined.
