still a newbie here.. i have a question about them lil chicks..

everyday after work, I would allow my daughter to take the chickens out to the backyards so that they can have their little freedom.. the first 3 chickens i have is a bout 3 months old.. then followed by 1 month old set of 2.. then 2 more chicks that are 2 weeks old..

.. anyhow, these 2 two week old chicks would always strech around the soil or any spot where there's a sun??

can anyone tell me why they do this??

Welcome 9moon. Were glad to have you here. I'm new to chickens myself, so I can't be much help. I know mine stay out of the sun and stay in the shade for the most part.

Chicks have to have heat. If i'm not mistaken they should still be under a heat lamp at somewhere around 90. You drop 5 degrees per week.

Maybe a more experienced person will come along and help you out on that.

You should not let your chicks roam for the first week. They need warmth to survive, which is why they sat in the sun. Keep your chicks under a heat lamp or a brooder. Keep them under it for about a week or two.

Sounds like sunbathing, one of a chickens favorite activities, however at that age are you sure they are not too cold?
I personally see nothing wrong with taking two week olders outside for a little playtime, but you do have to watch them for signs of chilling.
ETA: Keep in mind that mama hen doesn't keep the chicks crammed up under her wings at all times, she lets them explore; but always tucks them back under the wings when they start getting too cool.

Thanx for the advices everyone!! ill do that with those 2 lil chicks..

also, i wanted to let u guys know how i noticed that one of them is very aggresive.. all it does is jump around, and at the age of 2 weeks, it's already tryin to get out of its box by non-stop jumping..

just the other day, i had them play with the month old chicks in the backyard, and the aggressive 2 week old chick was tryin to pick a fight already??

it would get infront of the face of the 2 month old chick and it would act like it's gettin ready to attack..

is this there anything wrong with this lil one??

Just setting up the pecking order. All normal and natural. The pecking order is up and running from an incredibly young age.

What Gritsar said. I had mine out and the first time they sun or dust bathed, I thought they were having seizures!

then I discovered that is what chickens are wont to do. Cute isn't it?
