My husband and I have been married for 11 years now. We have 2 kids one is 4 yrs old and the other is 2 yrs old. We both like to do farming. So, when my first daughter was 2 years old we decide to hatch baby chicks ourselves for her to see them being hatched. We didn't have very good luck only 2 lived out of a dozen. So, we decide to buy baby chicks from our local farm store. My 4 yr old loves the chickens that we have, she collects eggs for me and helps me feed and water them. She loves to take care of the baby chicks also. My other daughter doesn't seem interested in the chickens or chicks yet. Hopefully, that will change. But, we just decide that we want fresh eggs and have chickens just wandering all over our property. We free range our flock. We have leghorns, barred rock, and red-sex links. And our baby chicks are buff orpingtons. We don't have any rooster, just all hens. But, we decided we wanted a rooster to maybe help with the predator problems. We all love are chickens, and I really love to just somedays go outside and watch them. I just love how they follow me around when I am outside doing yard work, they seem to keep me company. They really seem to know my voice and always come when I call to them or if they just hear me talking. Sometimes, when I am outside doing yard work and the chickens are there with me, they seem like they are talking to me. They are always making some type of noise and if I'm not paying attention to them, they really make a fuss. We also have 2 cats.
