new to this site, love it so far. i live in upstate ny. i have aprox 100 acres and not one animal except a box turtle my son has. i am a single dad and kids live with me so i decided to rebuild the chicken coop that is here and get some chickens. i grew up on this land, it was a horse farm, but we had chickens as well. i almost have old chicken coop rebuilt. im thinking of starting with a dozen dominiques.. thinking of ordering online.. not sure yet. any suggestions r appreciated.

it looks like u have plent of animals. this is my first step in rebuiding the farm somewhat. i will eventually get horses as well. but i figured the chickens will be a good way to break my kids into responsibility and nuturing.

A dad with kids. Been there done that. Animals and the care required by kids that get it make for a strong character. Go for it. As a newb here I find the people her much fun, and fairly helpful and well informed. Very active board.
