My name is Will and I'm addicted to poultry! Hahaha!! I was born and raised in the city and had always dreamt of living a simple life on the farm. I remember my family and friends would just laugh and tease me about it. I wanted to prove to them I could do it. So after 28 years of living in Southern CA my girlfriend and I decided to make the move and take a shot at living the country life. We moved in 2009 and settled on Pioneer, CA which is about 1.5hr south of Lake Tahoe.
Well, my chicken addiction started unexpectedly one day when I went to the local feed store for some dog and cat food. What I came home with were 12 peeping little fuzzballs. Totally forgot about the dog and cat food. Needless to say, my GF was not happy... Today, my flock is around 125 with 75 Cornish X's, 30+ layers (RIR, EE, BLRW, CM, BA), 7 Narragansett poults, 5 Rouen ducklings, and 5 giant white Pekin ducklings. And I still have my GF of 8 years
Hopefully she can make it until I can get her a ring. LOL.
It's been about 2 years since I started lurking on this forum and I learn new things from you all every day. Just want to thank you guys and gals for sharing all of your experiences. It's helped me tremendously on my quest to become more self sufficient and to teach my future family how to reconnect with nature. I hope my experiences can help someone else now. Or at least entertain you with our rookie mistakes
Anyways, good to officially meet you all and I'm excited to finally be a part of the BYC community!
