Good Afternoon everyone,

I'm trying to decide which breed of chickens are good for the North Central Texas area. The local feed mill had some chicks can't recall what the lady called them. But we looking for friendly chicks that will be good layers.

I'm suspecting the heat will be a factor but the area I slected for the coop is well shaded. It's close to the back porch, so hoping to let them roam free in the back yard after the dogs and cat get used to them.

Anyone have any suggestions ?

Welcome to the chicken yard... I am also ret MSgt and I can tell you that most of the stuff will just come back like riding a bike.
