Hi, I'm new to the chicken hobby, I just bought my first coop and will be building an enclosure for their outside time. I have a lot to learn so I will be on here asking questions and reading a lot. Didn't know there would be a site like this, soooo glad there is...I live in central Indiana in a town called Crawfordsville. Hopefully I will find someone near me with like interest that can help me thru the stumbling stage. I just want 5 or 6 egg laying hens, no rooster. I have predators in my area, hawks, racoons, possum, squirrels, neighborhood cats, coyotes and who knows what else so I will have to build a secure environment before I get any birds. Well, I'm gonna go look around....

! Happy you joined our community! You can perhaps find some locals by finding the Indiana thread in the link below. On predators, think hardware cloth - not chicken wire!! BYC has a great Predator and Pest forum as well. To help you through the stumbling stage as you say, take a look at the Learning Center link below. It will guide you to where you need to be! Good luck and have fun!

Hi from Missouri. This site is GREAT for learing about everything. Just think of a topic/question and I almost guarantee that there is a thread for it already. We are all learing together and happy to help.

I guess you learn something new every day, I was just looking around and I found chicken diapers, and chicken saddles,

I never would have thought......I'm having a blast on this site, so glad to hear from some fellow chicken lovers, and yes, I'm going to use the 1/2 inch hardware cloth for my chicken run...Thank you for that info....
