I started raising chickens a few weeks ago. Haven't had any since I had egg layers as a kid. Now we, (me, my wife can't raise meat animals, once they get a name, they don't get eaten) have 9 Cornish cross that are 5 weeks old. They eat a lot and grow fast. Looking forward to eating tasty and healthy meat. (sorry folks, but they are meat birds) Going to clean out freezers and see how many we can put up this summer. We have 10 acres and can free range quite a lot in the summer. The breast meat at 5 weeks looks so good and plump, can't wait to taste them.

Thinking of getting a few layers late next winter as we buy eggs from the neighbors now. We have horses, so were in the barn twice a day at a minimum anyhow. Just getting tired of reading labels and finding too much crap in processed food anymore. Lot's of good info here, thanks all. I have spent untold hours reading and learning. John

! Pleased to have you with us! I agree - that's what they are for. And you won't be disappointed - they are so delicious! We like to raise ours a little bigger and make roasters out of them. Best wishes!

Hi! I'm raising chicks too. Mine will not be eaten though, as they all have names.I wish you good luck with your chicks!
