Brand new member here from Devon, England. Been lurking quite some time but finally wanted to join so I can contribute too. Have had chickens now for 4 years and love them.
I have had 3 broody hens on eggs this year so my flock has doubled this year (and more to hatch tomorrow under my huge Orpington hen! (Rhode Island Reds, Cream Legbars, Cuckoo Marans and two Silver Campine eggs).
Have a variety breeds of Large Fowl hens (and Reg the Black and red Cochin Rooster) but trying to have a flock of Silver Laced Wyandottes and possibly one of Marans also. Have so far under 2 broodies hatched 6 SLW chicks, 2 legbars (both hens) and 7 Marans this year (2 confirmed cockerels) I think I'm going to need to rent a field soon! Luckily some of the new chicks have homes already and I spoke to someone today who might want some also.
I love chickens, they are very addictive. I'm currently planning on smuggling some Buff Orpington chicks under the hen due to hatch tomorrow (they are also hatching tomorrow down the road!) Just don't tell my man (lol).
Best wishes,
Ruth
