Hello, I'm Makayla! I have been trying to successfully raise chickens in the past few years, but all failed due to the high amount of predators in my area. My first flock contained Rhode Island Reds and Bantam hens. I had them for about 2 years, until the relocating of their coop, which was placed near my pond, down in the field. They free ranged all day and always returned to the safety of their large coop in the evening. Then came the day of the ambush. Some critter came and killed half my flock, before I could do anything about it, the other half was taken out! I was devastated and furious. Few years of realizing what I was dealing with and I had my second flock, which were Silkie roosters and hens. 4 roos and 2 hens, is what I got stuck with! I had them penned in for a while, but they outgrew the run and I just let them be. I wasn't as concerned for them, for they were located close to my house, almost in my backyard. I ridded 3 of my roosters to my Uncle and not long after, my remaining hens and rooster were taken out in 2 days! I was in determination mode now! Foxes were the suckers, taking out my flock! Few years after that and now I'm here! I have a decent sized run and coop that's completely predator proof! Yay! I have 5 laying Tetra Tint hens and a new Swedish Flower rooster. I have a plan to create an amazing crossbreed with my new and approved rooster! They are not quite ready to breed yet, 2 months time and they should be. I will call the chicks, Swedish Tints! They will have the good looks of the Swedish Flower roo and the good quality eggs and meat of the Tetra Tint hens. $2-$3 a chick is my starting price, since the Swedish Flower breed is rare in my area. I want to enter my rooster in the fair and start showing or whatever. I'm new to this success and will come to my fellow friends here! Hope you enjoyed my story! Aside from that, I have a great knowledge on chickens and will help anyone in need of answers! Thanks for reading, Makayla :)
