Hi everyone! I am kind of new to chickens and all the wonders they bring. I have 3 Australorps and an Ameraucana. The one I am confused about is my rooster. He was not bought but a gift from a co-worker who had 1 too many on her hands. One of my Australorps went broody so we gave her eggs from the Ameraucana and the rooster. Now I am just wondering what breed he is if any. If he turns out to be a regular mix of all breeds that fine he will fit right in with my 4 rescue dogs. :) I have added a couple of picks but he wasn't in a picture taking mood.

Welcome to BYC! Glad you decided to join our flock. Your rooster is a Black Sex Link rooster. Black Sex Links are hybrids produced by crossing a red gene rooster (RIR, Prod. Red, or NHR) with a barred hen (usually a BR). The chicks then can be sexed at hatching (male chicks are black with a white spot on top of their heads and female chicks are solid black). Please feel free to ask if you have any more questions. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.

Wow, what a pretty rooster! Enjoy this gorgeous boy and welcome to our flock!

Thank you for the explanation and the help. 5 of the 7 eggs she sat on made it and now I have 2 yellows, 2 blacks and a brown. One of the black chicks has a white spot on his head! I thought he was a boy because he's the most adventurous of the group. Can't wait to see how the rest turn out. I'm hoping for girls more girls. Right now we have 3 laying but it's not enough for a family of 3. I thought we would have extra to give to my brother but that so isn't the case. Here are some pics of the gang.
