Hello everyone!

Welcome to BYC! Glad you decided to join our flock. You have quite a collection of animals. I'm an animal lover as well. Please feel free to ask any other questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. What kind of chickens do you have?

Hey have a question about rusting galvanized chicken waterers. No one is responding on other posts yet. I read on here that you can use naval jelly rust dissolver to seal the metal waterers? Is this safe for the chickens to drink from? Wondered if this could leach into the water and poison them? Don't want to purchase a expensive heated base for this waterer tomorrow if it could make them sick. We cleaned it out good, and used This to seal. Waiting 24 hrs till we filled it up. Thanks

I would be very wary of using products like Naval Jelly, Marine Tex, etc. on galvanized chicken waterers. A number of studies have been done that suggest that they can be harmful to your chicken's health. I like the galvanized waterers because you can put water heaters under them to prevent the water from freezing in winter, and for this reason I've used them for years, but whenever they start leaking, I figure it is time to replace the galvanized waterer.
