I don't know much about quail, but I have successfully helped an egg-bound chicken. I soaked her lower half in probably 95 degree water. I was lucky, and she laid the egg about 5 minutes into the bath and had no more problems. Good luck with your quail!

Make sure the water is warm. Not luke warm and not hot. Of course you don't want to burn her, but if the water is not warm enough, it won't relax her muscles. What happens is they push and push so hard, the tight muscles in the abdomen itself can stop the passage of the egg. The calcium will help the oviduct contract and the warm water will help relax the abdomen muscles.

Good that you got her to eat some of the yogurt. I would blow dry her off because if she chills, then she will be clenching these muscles again. So keep her warm and in a semi dark quiet room.

The egg has been poking out all morning, and it hasn't passed yet. She did nibble on the calcium, and I have been soaking and drying her. I also added the Vaseline.
 
How far out is the egg? If she doesn't pass this egg in a couple hours, you will need to break it.

Do you have an empty syringe? You would need to poke a tiny hole in the egg, just big enough to get the tip of the syringe in and not break the egg and suck out the insides of the egg. Do this very gently so that there are not too many shards. After you suck out the insides, gently collapse the shell and pull it out. Try to get all of the shell without leaving anything behind.

The only problem with breaking the egg as it can cut her and cause infection. But not getting the egg out is going to kill her with either prolapse or dying from not being able to poop.

So keep doing what you are doing and in a couple hours you may need to break this egg in the fashion I described. Don't let this go on until tomorrow as she will prolapse or die.

I have two empty syringes, but I hope it doesn't come to that. I think the egg is cracked because it is leaking. I am seeing some soreness in her vent as well.

Ok...since it is leaking, she will not be able to push it out. So you will have to try and suck out most of the contents, collapse it and gently pull the shell out.

Don't wait until she prolapses as this is a very bad situation that never ends good.

I am using the syringe. How do I collapse the egg?
 
Once you get most of the contents out, see if you can reach with your finger, and you may need to use your pinky, on top of the shell and drag it out. Go slow so you don't cut her too much.

OK, I have taken the shell out, she isn't bleeding, but her cochlea is swollen. What's my next move?
 
Good. Do you have any preparation H? Generously rub this all over her vent. This will help with swelling.

I would keep her inside for the rest of the day and put her back tomorrow, as long as her vent swelling goes down. She is no doubt tired and might get picked on by the others if you put her back in with them.

And make sure she has access to plenty of crushed oyster shell at all times in the future. You can serve it up in a hanging parrot dish off the side of their pen, or even mix it in with the dust bath area dirt. And make sure she gets plenty of water. Many times quail have too much competition to drink and being dehydrated will cause egg binding because the oviduct gets dry. So if you have to, put in another waterer for your quail.

Keep us posted on how she is doing! If you see her vent getting more and more red and swollen as the week progresses, you might want to start her on antibiotics of some sort. Hopefully she heals enough before she lays again. If this happens with the next egg, you may need to put her in a dimly lit area for a week with only 8 hours of daylight to get her to stop laying and heal over.
