Good morning fellow BYCers.
My name is Elizabeth. I am a newbie chicken owner and have really fell in love with the whole process. My girls bring me so much joy.
My girls are 8wks old and thriving for the most part. I currently have 19 in my flock but 1 is on the injured list. (A few nights ago, she was severely bullied and when I let the girls out in the morning, she didn't come out. I found her in the coop with a 'scalped' bloody head
She has subsequently been removed and I am attending to her wounds which she is healing nicely from.)
I purchased my girls from Hoovers Hatchery and they arrived healthy on Oct. 15. I purchased the Assorted Colored Egg layer assortment which can include any of the following breeds: Americana, Olive Egger, Prairie Bluebell Egger™, Sapphire Olive Egger™, Starlight Green Egger™, Midnight Majesty Marans™, French Black Copper Marans, or Cuckoo Marans. Honestly, I don't care what the breed is because they are pretty amazing little creatures and I am blessed to have the responsibility of taking care of them.
The favorite thing I love about my ladies is that they relax me. If I am stressed, I can go out and play with my girls by giving them treats or simply just letting them forage and watching them living their best life. In the future, I hope to have some fresh eggs too.
A little about me: I am a military wife and we have moved all over the globe. My husband is soon to retire in the next few years and we wanted to set down some roots. Now that I won't be moving anytime soon, I am able to have a garden and raise some chickens. I have 3 children (30yo son, 20 and 16 year old daughters). We have 3 dogs: 7yo Frenchie, 18mo English bulldog, and 11mo old Bullmastiff. We are a Navy family stationed in the Pensacola, Fl area.
I found BYC by searching how to help my poor girl that was injured. After looking through the forums and articles, I knew that I wanted to join the BYC family, so here I am.
