Hi everyone!
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I previously had chickens, in Christmas of 2017 to December of 2019. Then, unfortunately, we moved and could not bring our chickens with us(we rehomed them). So, I have a bit of experience, but I'm not a chicken-keeping veteran!
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
None, but I am planning to get 3-4 hens in mid-late March.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Again, none, but some of my favorites are black australorps, buff Orpingtons, welsummers, barred rocks, Cochins, and Brahmas.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Honestly, I don't care a whole lot about egg-laying abilities(although the rest of my family do). I just love chickens. They can, at times, be quite stressful when they are sick or injured, but overall, they are such a joy to own.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I am currently struggling to have a healthy garden. I also enjoy drawing(mostly animals), making bracelets with embroidery floss, researching stuff about all of my favorite animals(of which there are many), reading, and occasionally playing some video games.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I have a female, 6-year-old miniature poodle. As mentioned above, we recently moved, at the end of 2019. I live in a family of five, and we live on a 3 acre property, most of which is forest, in Virginia. I think we have about a quarter to a half of an acre that is clear of trees. I love music. I also have a pretty serious love for animals(I think they are about my 4th favorite thing in my life). I am now going to list all my favorites. Chickens(duh), rats, mice, ferrets, cats, dogs(GSDs and Australian shepherds and cav. King Charles spaniels), horses, parrots(red lored Amazons, cockatiels, pacific parrotlets, GCCs, Lineolated parakeets), pidgeons, quail(Coturnix), snakes, leopard geckos, and goats(Nigerian dwarf) are some of my favorite animals that I would like to own. Some of my favorite wild animals are owls, wolves, vultures, hawks, lions, snow leopards, a bunch of different wild birds, and butterflies/moths/caterpillars.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I think I discovered BYC a couple years ago, when I had chickens and was looking up questions about them. I decided to join now because I'm planning to get a another small flock soon, and I'll likely need some help.
