Hello fellow chicken lovers

Welcome Wagon.gif
The new breeds are likely not a resistant to mareks.

Work on flock health. Mareks is worse when chickens are stressed in any way

Which is why my roosters drop like fies. Ever see a rooster that wasn't stressed?

True that about the new specialized breeds, @ronott1. One of the constants in Marek's discussions is the fact that the closer to 'wild' the chicken's are, the more resistant to disease.

Welcome to BYC! You could try asking about CS under the diseases tab, you should get some pretty helpful responses there! I love Maine Coons, my husband is anti-cat though :hit It's the only critter he gives me a hard no on. Do you have any photos of your dog? A St Bernard x Mastiff sounds really pretty (And HUGE) lol.
Thanks, @penny1960
Yes, I am familiar with CS but only in reguards to using it in wound care. I've seen CS heal up some really horrendous wounds in record time so yes, I am curious as to how it would be used in regards to MD.

@Ladyofkris, Welcome to Back Yard Chickens! You have Marek's in your flock? Have you tried CS? In what dosage and with what results?

I've lost more than 20 chickens to Marek's in the last year and a half and before fall will be culling most of my Buff O's and Wellys because of them slowly declining from the disease. Even if there is some confirmed benefit to using CS if for nothing else than to strengthen the resistence of my 'healthy' birds, I would be willing to give it a try.
Thanks, @penny1960

I decided to send her back into the ether! I didn’t want to risk her slugging off more virus to the rest of my flock. I shop vacced out the coop, threw away the shop vac, burned the straw, totally doused the coop with a bactericidal, fungicide, virocidal, tuberculocidal, solution closed up the coop for a day, also cleaned the waterers and feeders with it, started electrytes and vitamins in water, and am going to start making colloidal silver and putting in their water daily. I have used silver for ten years on my kids, self, and animals. I myself and probably drank a gallon in my lifetime. The blue man is a myth, I have cured whooping cough, flu, food poisoning, rsv, extremely bad infected cats, and distemper. I think even if they are now carriers due to the other two (barred rocks) that I’ve culled which both were paralyzed: one just laid on its back the other MAY have gotten better but I didn’t want to risk it- at least the silver will keep them from coming down with it.
