Hi everyone!
I just joined this site, though I've been meaning to for a long time. I'm twenty-one years old, pre-vet, and totally passionate about chickens and poultry! I've been raising chickens since I was about ten years old and one of my friends got me into the hobby. She had a large flock that her mother raised for eggs, and we were out catching feral roosters for fun at a local feed store and I fell in love with the last rooster we caught. It all went downhill from there! I used to have over one hundred chickens because my bantams were breeding in the brush like crazy, but I lost a few too many birds that way and moved them into a coop for their safety. My coop is currently about twenty-five feet long, fifteen feet wide, and has a large shed on the end that serves as my chicken house. My birds are quite content with their arrangements, though I'd always love more ideas to make it more fun and interesting for them in there.
I'm especially passionate about bantams (just got into seramas, and I'm very excited about this) and ornamental breeds.
I wish I could keep exotic pheasants, but alas I don't have a separate run and can't afford one at the moment. In the future, I want to get into that, though. All my chickens are kept as pets, have names, are tame and spoiled and loved, and I just adore them! Some of them I've had for ten years or more. I just lost one of my roosters after a good ten years with him, so that's unfortunate, but he had a wonderful ten years of life. If you're curious about what I have in my flock, see my signature!
I hope to get to know many of you, share lots of pictures and stories of my birds, offer advice if I can, and learn some new things!
