Why yes, hello from North Carolina! I am new here but not new to chickens.
I currently have 23 chickens. Let's see the breeds are: 2 Rhode Island Red hens, 5 Red Comet hens, 1 Barred Rock hen, 1 little black bantam, 1 other bantam and 1 Bielefelder rooster in that group. I also have another group consisting of 5 Black sex link hens and one Bielefelder rooster, these ones all young - 17 weeks old. I'm ready to put these two groups together but first need to re-home the 17 week old Bielefelder cockerel. He is beautiful and gentle and I want to make sure he ends up at a small farm or homestead with people that will appreciate him. Sorry to ramble about that but it's on my mind.
Then in another pasture I have a group of purebred Bielefelders - 6 hens and 2 roosters. I love them all.
Other hobbies: gardening, crochet, knitting, quilting, trying to be healthy.
We are working on building a homestead and becoming self sufficient. It's been challenging as we started out with RAW LAND and have built everything from scratch. We've come a long way but of course have far to go. It's been quite a challenge, but one of the most rewarding and profound projects I have ever worked on.
I also currently have 2 fur babies, an Anatolian Shepherd LGD and a Chihuahua (go figure!)
Back to my peeps - I've been working on breed improvement with my Bielies and have some beautiful birds now. It's been exciting to start out with hatching eggs received through the mail, incubate those babies, have them grow up and have babies of their own. We also had a broody RIR hatch some of our Bielie chicks. All so exciting!
I'm glad to be here amongst friends who appreciate the really great things in life - our peeps!
