Hello friends! Here from the capital of North Dakota

:eek:oh WOW! Your set up is awesome! It's so big! Really like the double door! The colors or top notch. Hoe big is the coop and run if you don't mind me asking? And of course the birds are looking fantastic. In the last photo there is a very striking black Roo what kind is he? Very very handsome
You can read my coop build article by clicking on the My Coop link under my avatar.
The colors match my house.
The black boy is an Ameraucana. The real deal. He is no longer in residence here. He and my main man, Fabio, wouldn't stop fighting so I sold him to a lady who uses him in her BBS Ameraucana breeding pen. Fabio was going to kill him if I didn't.
You DON'T go after my boy and stick around for very long!

Wow what beauty! He's regal as they come! I'm a fan of the beard I have to say. And I totally get it! Won't keep the peace ya gotta lay down the peace. I will most certainly check out your build! I have built mine already and have went all out. I still have just a few things to do it. Even though it's under a green ash shade tree I'm going to be putting a roof on half the run just because of the massive thunder storms that roll through in the summer and the copious amount of snow we get in the winter time. But in the few years to come up sure I want to grow my flock and will have to add on to my coop! I was lucky enough to have moved to a place that had an old dilapidated tin garden shed that was on a concrete slab. Tore that down to build my coop on. But nonetheless I will check it out can always use more inspiration!

Barnevelders are indeed gorgeous! And from what I have gathered is that they're cold hardy enough. And I certainly need cold hardy birdies here. Just yesterday we dipped to Negative 18 degrees🥶

This is good to hear with your success with the hatcheries and the condition they show up in. Gives me some reassurance. Do you go through different hatcheries all the time? Any favorites? My pet chicken seems nice, although I will say they are pretty expensive especially with the overnight shipping but I suppose that is to be expected with live cargo and so few to begin with.

No actually! I'm happy to say I didn't get all pullets I made sure to get me a Roo as well! Wanted a male Barnevelder to go along with the three barnie pullets I'm getting. If everything goes as planned I'll get some more Barnie's to hatch out and some barnie mixes as well should be cool 😎

I have had some birds go broody on me. With my first flock ever there was this smaller white one (this flock was taken over by me as they were already at the house I had moved into) I had no idea what she was. she was white with black tips of her feathers I'm guessing she was some sort of hamburg is the best I could come up with. She laid tiny beautiful blue eggs. Some have said EE but I'm not so sure she could fly like her early jungle fowl ancestors haha I hatched out so many with her
The second flock my one Barnevelder actually went broody but stopped like 4 days in thankfully in that time one of the speckled sussex went broody and finished the job. Some have told its was more on the rarer side that either of them went into brood mode. But idk im.hopping I get some aspiring mothers to be in this flock :fl

Back then I ordered a couple times from cackle hatchery, one time from murray mcmurray, and another from ideal poultry, I believe one from mypetchicken too. I know MPC is a little more expensive because you can order a few chicks compared to other hatcheries that have their limit of 25 baby chicks or more. Ever since I got an incubator, I rather hatch them at home. I would recommend MPC if you wanted a smaller quality, never had any issues.

Oh awesome! I'd love to eventually start that venture. Buying an incubator and such would be a wise investment I believe. Is it difficult?
