I am looking forward to getting some great ideas from all of you before I start my own little back yard flock. :) The reason I haven't jumped into this quite yet is for several reasons. 1. I live in an area where having poultry as pets is not permitted so I will have to wait until I move to an area that allows me to have them. (until then I dream & plan of my future pets.) 2. I like to do my research on an animal (or at least that type of animal) before I actually adopt one into my family. Although in this case I plan on adopting 6-8 of them depending on how much space I have for them when I move & build their home. :)

Thank you for having me.

and Welcome to BYC!
I'm so glad you decided to join. Smart choice to learn more about an animal before you get it

. What breeds are you looking at getting? If you haven't already checked out learning center you should definitely stop by and take a peek the https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center. Please feel free to make yourself at home!

Hi Taffy, welcome to BYC!

I like your way of getting into chickens...making sure they are permitted, researching first, planning. All that prep work will make your intro to a flock go much easier and make it more enjoyable.

If you have questions along the way, always feel free to ask questions. There is a ton of information here and a lot of friendly, helpful members.

Good luck to you, thanks for joining us!

First of all I want to say thank you for the warm welcome and I look forward to getting to know everyone & learning more while I am here. Thank you for having me.

Now to answer some questions.

Chicken Girl 1 - I haven't decided on what breeds yet as I still have about 2 years before I know where I am moving to thanks to a job that keeps my family moving (Thankfully, my next home is where we will be staying & settling down roots.) and I would like to know the kind of climate I will be living in to find chickens that are best suited to that climate. (it could be anywhere from Idaho, Florida or Arizona)

trailrider330 - it will be roughly 2 years before we can move as we are at the whims of the job right now. :)
