My husband and I are turning our 1/3 acre small town lot into a sustainable Eden Garden homestead with a flock of chickens, and a colony of rabbits. We plan to raise both species together in a Racken house and because we have to take both species into consideration to save space, we keep going in circles in our research to ensure we can accommodate everyone. The space we have to raise these animals is an old 240 sq ft garage that we will modify and insulate leaving us with 192 sq ft after our supply room is installed. The chickens we have decided to start with are Black Australorps, Salmon Faverolles, and some mixed Brahmas but we have also considered asking some local producers for some fertilized eggs. Our goal is to help support our local food pantry, and we hope to convince some of our neighbors to help us do that.
