(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

We got our first flock 3 years ago in 2015.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

We have 7 hens and 2 ten week old pullets.

(3) What breeds do you have?

Buff Orpington, Dominque, RIR, Easter Egger, Cochin, Black Australorp

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?

When I was furiously researching everything to know about chickens when I found out we were buying a home with some land. I found everything right here, and still do!

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

Woodburning, building things like coops and run-in shelters, tending to our mini farm that includes two miniature horses along with three dogs, a lionhead rabbit, and hoping to add a bantam flock. Perhaps Serama or d'uccle?

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I work from home in IT, and that really makes it wonderful to spend lots of time with our garanimals. Chickens were my husband's dream, but quickly became my obsession. He passed away, but the coop we built together stands and is very special to me. Construction just completed last week of a gigantic roof that suspends over the original coop and run, as well as an expansion to the coop itself. That job was handled by an amazing neighbor we contracted who is very skilled. I only build short things, being 5'1" and female, haha. I put up a prefab coop, taking all the suggestions from forum posts on this site to improve and protect it, as a grow up coop. I built a walk in expansion on the run, which I just opened up to the chicklets yesterday. What fun! As I have enough space now to segregate in the original coop to a grow up coop, I was thinking that the grow up coop may become a bantam coop as it's going to be a real bummer when it's empty. :)
