Although my parents raised chickens for our personal consumption when I was young, I never paid attention to the chicken outside of chores. Having moved onto a farm, we decided to explore the world of chickens and have started with a small flock of 8 different breeds: Maran, Rhode Island Red, Plymouth Barred Rock and ISA. We are learning so much and absolutely enjoying the experience. I have seen some informative pieces on the BYC site so have joined to learn more and to have a place to ask questions from more experienced chicken owners. btw - we are in the Niagara region in Canada so here's hoping that chickens really don't mind cold weather as winter approaches!

Welcome to the BYC Family!
8 is a great start and next year the Chicken Math Fever may take over and you may be adding more to the flock!
I'm not in as cold of an area as you but winter will be colder than last year and with more snow, at least, everything is pointing toward this. My chickens do just fine in the cold months.
