(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am brand new to chickens! We received our 4 tiny chicks about 9 weeks ago and they continue to delight us everyday. I am surprised at how much I worry about them and fuss about them having everything just right. Their first night in the coop was very tough for me!
(3) What breeds do you have?
2 Partridge Olive Eggers (Yoyo and Sassy), 1 Blue egger (Josephine), and 1 Swedish Flower (Papaya)
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I just love watching them. My partner and I sit out at cocktail hour and watch the girls go about their business. This was even before I discovered "Drinking with Chickens" on Instagram (love it - highly recommended!).
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I live with my partner and our three teenagers. One of my daughters is off to college in the Fall (UC Davis) and I also have a son studying for med school. I teach 5th grade and last year was my first year teaching, so it made me very blue when school shut down for Covid. I did the best for my students, but I felt like they were being cheated. I'm praying to return to a physical classroom in the fall.
I look forward to chatting with other chicken loving friends!
