Hello from Alaska!

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

I've had chickens on the farm in Indiana before moving up here to Alaska. Most recently, I bought some chickens about a year ago.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

I have 11 chickens.

(3) What breeds do you have?

Black Astrolaups, Sex-Linked, and a few others I have yet to decipher.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?

I was looking up some coop ideas and google came back with some threads on this forum.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

I'm a writer, artist, and baker by night Application Programmer, Systems Engineer for the government by day.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

Grand total of 6 family members, 5 cats, 2 dogs and 11 chickens.

We've visited Alaska several times and have talked about moving. Awesome that you guys made the move! What prompted your decision? What part of Alaska do you live?

I was a bit young (13) when we made the move. I moved out (military) after I graduated... than I moved back to raise a family here.

Compared to the lower 49, this particular city (Juneau) is a bit... safer (?) to raise kids (less crime per mile). Less pollution, less garbage.. and! Most importantly... Beautiful nature everywhere!

I will definitely post some pictures of my mini flock soon!
