It’s wonderful to have you here! I think you’re good with a lot of breeds of chickens. Ducks like the cold even more, by the way. I’m sure the locals can tell you what breeds do best. Good luck with your new life!

I live in a small community and I did talk to some that owns chickens nearby. They order from a hatchery and aren’t specific on the breeds they have. They did say ducks are not fun to have just because of all the water turns to ice and makes a mess.

This new member post caught my attention because of your location honestly. Alaska is such beautiful country- where did you move from if you don't mind my asking, and what inspired/led to your move? We've been eyeballing land up there for a few years.

It's good to hear you already have a barn and coop in place on the property! Could you possibly ask the prior residents what type of chickens they kept? Perhaps try the state thread here in BYC or network with locals near you and ask them about their favorite breeds. Again, a big welcome to you!

I moved from WA state, and I am in the Mat-Su borough. I’ve been interested in living up her for a long time, and was only able to make it a reality recently. My first visit was about a year and a half ago. The nature is life changing and awe inspiring. I like the people and the way of life a lot more. I also like how it’s not ‘tamed’ and there’s not as many people. It just fits our lifestyle way more. It’s amazing to be here everyday. The pace of life is slower and more enjoyable too. I could go on and on. But like I said feel free to reach out directly.
