Farm - Milk River
Hi,
I've been ghosting around for a few weeks and thought it was time to introduce myself.

I'm Kelly, I have a degree in Organic Chemistry and am a Certified Windows Administrator. 2 years ago we (husband, son and I) gave up our life in the big city and bought a farm on the Alberta/Montana Border. We love it here!

We currently have 2 donkeys, 3 inside cats, casey the Pomeranian, 2 snakes and numerous barn cats. There is chicken housing at the barn. We were going to get chicks last year but chickened out! Now with the help of backyardchickens.com we are ready to get started.

We decided that the chicken housing at the barn is too delapitated and far from the house. So we are going to utilize old materials and build a new coop and run in an area closer to the house. Deep litter method. We have ordered 25 Red Sussex Cross mixed sex and they will arrive May 20, 2009. We are using a 40gal aquarium for a brooder and hoping it is big enough. The plan is that the hens will stay and the majority of the roo's will hit the BBQ. We are a bit concerned about winterizing the coop, and would appreciate tips from any other members with cold winters.

I'm sure i will have WAY more questions once the chicks arrive.

Cheers!
