Hello from Alberta!

Hi! Welcome to BYC! No breed is completely quiet and all seam to have the same amount of talkative sounds. Note: don’t get a rooster if you want a quiet rock!

Some good breeds:

-silkies (not good layers, smaller eggs, 3-4 a week, these are the fluffy chickens! Prob quietest I have had)

-austrolorps (good layers, they are black and in light they have a green shimmer, quieter)

-Sussex (SO curious, good layers, speckled is my fav, mid quiet)

-Orpingtons (so many colors, buff is my fav, good layers, very docile and sweet, quieter)

-olive eggers (mid quiet, green eggs, great layers, all look different)

Hi! That's exciting! I hope your chicken acquisition plans all go well! I think maybe you could try to win your neighbor over with some fresh chicken eggs. Plus, I would rather hear chicken noises than equipment noises, so hopefully it won't bother them too much.

I'm not sure if you are planning on free-ranging them, but you will want to keep them out of your garden, unless you don't mind sharing or them digging it up by dustbathing in it. I use electric poultry netting to keep them out of where I don't want them.

Thanks for joining and welcome to BackYard Chickens!
