Hello everyone and thank you! I have still to come up with a question that hasn't been asked and answered. I've been coming here for chicken related information for almost two months. Finally, I got my own little "peeps " (3 bantam cochins, 1 australorp, 1 easter egger, 1 barred rock, 1 silver wyandot). Thank you everyone for sharing and so much great advice. What a wonderful community!
Well, I thought I'll share a joke from my collection of "things I thought I would never say to my husband until I got chickens".
I've been pretty upsest trying to identify roosters. The other day, I said to my husband as he was walking by - "hey honey, please, come over here and look at this chick's butt." Not sure what first thing ran through his mind..., but sure hasn't been a dull moment since we've got into this new adventure.

you really need to look at the birds comb area, I think that is one of the earliest indicators of sex There is a forum on here for "what gender is this." and you could post photos of your "maybe" rooster.

I found myself talking about what happened after I wormed my chickens I'm sure people were horrified to hear about worms ugh.

from Ohio and God Bless!!! Don't panic too much about finding the roosters. I thought several of my chicks were roosters and only one was. You should know for sure at about 4-6 months. By the way, I love the breeds you have.

Welcome to BYC from California Wine Country in the Western Sierra Foothills!

There is a thread on "Things you never said until you had chickens.." which is pretty hilarious. Poultry keeping really changes one's view on so many things.

I find myself noticing poultry in movies and TV shows... For instance, the current series "Vikings" had Delaware chickens in the first episode. I think not.... :lau

Since then there have been two episodes with a gaggle of possibly historically correct utility Toulouse geese wandering through scenes.

I wouldn't try to sex a chick until it's at least 8 to 10 weeks old.... And some breeds mature more slowly, too. Good luck!
