Hi, I'm Michelle.
I'm Married, with 2 grown sons and 2 dogs (Brittanys). We have almost an acre with flood irrigation backyard in Glendale, AZ.
My husband's been wanting to get chickens for a while, not sure why. My only thought against it was how much work I'd have to do. I love taking on new projects but can sometimes get overwhelmed. I've been researching by watching lots of YouTube videos and I've decided to give it my best try. Now that I've decided, I want to run right out and buy some, but I know that's not responsible, so I'm planning on getting our first flock of chicks either this fall or next spring. Between now and then I'll continue researching, and practicing getting up at dawn every day
We'll either build a permanent coop on one of our berms and let them free range, or build a chicken tractor. haven't decided which yet.
We want a small flock (10 to start) of heat tolerant egg layers. I'm leaning toward either White Leghorn or Americana.
In other news, I've enjoyed gardening for a few years, off and on. I currently have three raised beds on the side of our house which are mostly dirt and sprouts. My spring 2020 crops are: tomatoes, tomatilloes, cilantro, chilies, peas, strawberries, zucchini, cucumbers, melons, Sorghum (sugar cane), and gourds. I've plans to expand it by quite a bit over time, but that may get pushed back until the chickens are established.
Guess that's it for now. Looking forward to getting to know you.
