I'm new to raising chickens. I have a Dominique rooster, but I'm fixing to get some Rhode Island Red bantams. I am excited about chickens. I'm hoping to get some good advice from yall.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. Which part of Arkansas are you from? I was born in Hot Springs and still love that area. If you haven't done so already, definitely our Learning Center at https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center. There is loads of useful information there. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.

Before you add new birds to your existing flock, isolate the new chickens for 30 days to be sure you aren't introducing an illness or pest to your existing flock. Then let the 2 sets of birds see each other without being able to touch for a while...that gives everyone a chance to get acquainted. Adding new birds means the pecking order will be re-established and if they get used to each other before mingling that can cut down on them fighting with each other.

Since you already have a rooster, I take it the RIR's will probably be female? You'll want to have 8-10 females to 1 roo to help prevent over-breeding and stress.

Good luck to you. If you have questions, always feel free to ask...everyone is here to help!
