Hello from Arkansas

Ha! I'm from Benton too... but I live in NWA now. My family is still in the area though and we visit regularly...

Thanks for the welcome!

And Luv... I admit I have a sickness... and so of course I built myself a little candling box this afternoon and plan to candle the eggs here in about 30 minutes at turning time! I can't help myself...

Well it doesn't appear good here! BoooooHooooooo! Just candled my hatching eggs and I saw several with detached air cells! Whaaaaaaaaaaa

I'll wait another few days before I throw them out to be sure... But that's pretty hard to miss!

From now on I'll know to candle when the eggs arrive!

Can I cry some more?

No, no......you can't cry. Not yet. What day are these eggs? I have had many a detached air cell eggie hatch. It happens a lot in shipping but they can still make it. Did you see development at all? I tend to take the "if it doesn't stink don't toss it" approach to hatching.

I started that after breaking an egg with a "dead" embryo. It wiggled for several minutes before finally dying so I just don't risk it anymore. That was heart breaking.

Well I haven't given up on them just yet. I put them back in their little polyfiberfill carton nests and tipped them just like the rest. These eggs are at day 4, so due to my blatant ignorance at what I was seeing I didn't toss them.

Maybe I do have the fact that I am keeping the large end mostly upright going for me here. I think I'll wait until day 7 or 8 to candle again. I should be seeing some definite development by then.

But I agree, I'm getting on the no smelly no tossy bus.

Keeping my fingers crossed! I have 2 little girls depending on getting a silkie each from these 18 eggs... I was hoping I could at least get two live chicks from that many!
