My wife and I, with our 5 (and soon to be 6) little boys, started a small home farm last September. Earlier this year we got our first batch of chickens; all sorts (Wyandottes, Hamburgs, Naked Necks, among others). Through different situations over the months, we've added more (and lost 2). We've got 45 now. That's in addition to the 10 ducks and 4 geese.
We're really excited! Tons of fun. Lots of learning.
Just yesterday, one hen from the original batch of chickens we got, laid her first egg. It's tiny; I'm thinking it was the game bird (didn't see who was sitting then). They are five months old now.
We've learned a lot already from backyardchickens.com, especially the thread. Looking forward to the interactions and education.
