Hello all, My name is Jim. I live in Warrior, Al. and I'm new to raising chickens and haven't started yet but am looking in to making a coop for next spring. I have raised quail when I was younger but have decided I want to do chickens and save a few bucks on getting eggs and hopefully will do well with this. I look forward to getting more insight and help in the future and hopefully have some good pics to post soon

you will probably find that you wont save much money on buying eggs, but chickens are an awesome hobby. you will know how fresh your eggs are, and what has been fed to the chickens that laid them; your eggs will probably be more nutritious than store bought eggs.

i started off with around 15 for egg laying purposes, i really cant tell you how many i have now LOL. i love doing what i do.

Me too I save on eggs, yea right... over 100 chickens and counting, we love our birds and don't care how much they cost us. We do sell eggs and it does help with feed cost, and we never buy eggs anymore nor does anybody else in my family.
Welcome and enjoy!

Welcome Jim! I raise coturnix quail, and haven't purchased an egg from the store since April. Twenty hens keep me in the eggs, and there never seems to be a shortage.
This is a great site. The search tool at the top is really nice; I found out that if you have a question, just type it in because 9 times out of 10, somebody here in the past has already asked it, and some knowledgeable members have already answered it.
Roll Tide,
James
