Well, we don't actually have any chickens yet, but I'm on here to learn and be ready for when we do. I've got a coop in the works and we're now looking for chicks...unfortunately, it seems as though we might have waited too long. Does anyone know anywhere in the area that we could get local chicks? Most catalog companies will stop shipping here soon because of the heat, and we can't order their minimun anyway. We're only allowed to have 3 in our backyard. I was hoping to find a local breeder that doesn't have to ship chicks. Also, what is a good docile, and quiet breed for Southern LA? I know I'll get some good answers here, so thanks in advance.

Check your local feed store. If they can't get you chicks, they may be familiar with local owners/breeders that can sell to you.

And I dont know where they are located but My Pet Chicken does small orders.

Check craigslist, it took me a few weeks since I got my first chicks late fall, but I found mine on there eventually.
