Hi! I'm Michelle and my partner and I live on a small hobby farm in the Kootenay Boundary Region of southern BC. We are new to chickens and just got our first 10 chicks at the end of March. One died the first night but the other girls are thriving and happy so far. We have 2 Rhode Island Reds, 2 Speckled Sussex, 3 Blue Laced Red Wyandottes, one Barred Rock, and one Salmon Favorelle. We are raising them for eggs but plan to do meat birds in the future as well. We have a large household to feed, as we support 2 adults with disabilities in our home and have a teenage couple living in our basement, plus my father-in-law and a family friend also live on the property. We have 4 cats who are very much interested in their new feathered "friends" and enjoy watching them in their temporary run attached to our greenhouse in the backyard. We are currently building a coop and finishing the fencing on a large run. I look forward to gleaning some tips and advice from the more seasoned chicken folks in this community!
