Hello there, Michael and Nita here and we are fairly new to owning chickens, we just got our first chickens in April 2020 when they were just a few days old. We’ve hand raised them and we now refer to them lovingly as our ‘Lap Chickens’. We built a 15’ x 30’ fully enclosed run to keep them safe and cool. We have 12, but want many more
trying to hold off to make sure we can keep these happy and healthy for a few years before adding to our flock. We absolutely love our little chickitty chickens!
2 Speckled Sussex = Laverne & Shirley
2 Buff Orpington = Buffy & Hildigard
2 Black Cochin = Gene Simmons & Ace Freeley
2 Golden Laced Polish = Spencer & Fernandita
1 Isbar (ice-bar) = Jasmine
1 Rhode Island Red = Ginger
1 Welsummer = Summer (But might be Samuel)
1 Americauna = Fluffy
The thing we love most about having chickens and raising them as pets is that we can sit in the run with them, relax, and have them hang out in our laps so we can love on them and bonus, they will feed us too (once they start laying).
We live on two acres in a rural community east of San Diego and love the peacefulness of not really having neighbors. We have five children, all grown and one granddaughter, we don't have other pets, but eventually want pigs and sheep
.
We found this amazing community thanks to google and a desire to learn how to properly care for our 12 little loves. We’ve spent the last 14 weeks searching
various chicken related topics teaching ourselves and this community seems to have all the information we need.
