Hi all!
I became a backyard chickener a few years ago with no knowledge what so ever other than Mother Earth News said it wasn't too hard to have backyard chickens. Currently I have one lone surviving hen from the original 6 black rosecomb bantams I started with. She is my pet. She follows me all over and talks to me while I garden. My granddaughters pick her up and play with her like she's a barbie doll.

I currently have her 'Chicky Bak Bak', two Partridge Cochins (very pretty), one Golden Sebright (very sweet) and a mystery rooster that is white, fluffy, feathers on his legs and feet and he is very girly looking. He is so funny and sweet. He tries to be manly and herd the girls around and they sometimes let him think he's moving them around. But other times he calls and calls and they ignore him so he finally comes back to where they are. I really think a couple of the girls get PMS sometimes, because they in general, ignore him. But every now and then a couple of them face him off and my black rosecomb jumps up at him like roosters do when they fight. The white rooster always backs off. He's very mild mannered and sweet. My granddaughter carries him around on her arm like a 'hawk'. He just sits there all calm like he's taking a nap.
Anyways, I love having the chickens and I've gotten a few other people interested in and keeping backyard chickens. They are so entertaining!
