My husband and I got our first chicks a week ago; 14 guinea fowl and 25 Rhode Island Reds! Before that we only had 3 roosters that were rescued from a bad situation. I stumbled upon BackYardChickens.com as I was looking for answers to the many questions I had about raising chicks and am so thankful for the internet and sites like this
My husband and I met 3 years ago, in our 40s, so we have no children... not the human kind anyway. We are starting up a rescue facility on his ranch, so far we have 5 horses, 4 donkeys, 20 cats (all spayed and neutered!), 2 pigs and the afore mentioned roosters. Of course there are our 2 dogs as well.
