Hi Everyone!

I have just become the proud owner of 7 chickens. I must be driving them crazy as I can't stop checking on them in their coop :)

I hope to eventually introduce more chickens some for laying and some for eating but I'm already wanting to name them so I don't know how that's going to go Haha

Yes, you will never eat "Hilda" or "Pearl" or "Henrietta"! LOL So it is best not go get too attached if you plan on inviting them to dinner!

Great to have you aboard and enjoy your new flock!!

Thank you for all the warm welcomes.
@TwoCrows I think you're right about the names, I wouldn't know if I'm even brave enough to do the chop anyway :/
Just got my 1st egg Wohoo! However, it looks a bit cracked. Could this be from lack of calcium in their diet or just clumsy hens?

Yes, it looks a bit thin shelled. Make sure the birds are eating enough of their layer feed so they get plenty of calcium. Too much free ranging and treats, especially this time of year when there is less daylight to eat, they may not get enough calcium. And always keep oyster shell available at all times. Keep it right next to the feed and water. Hens won't go looking for it, but if it is in their faces, they will eat what they need. And sometimes those first egg can be a bit funky until the hens get their egg laying machines in gear.

Oh, and congrats on that first egg!!!! Nothing more EGG-citing than finding that first egg!
