Hello from Brooklyn, NY!!!

Hi!

I'm writing from brooklyn as well. I'm interested in cultivating a dynamic outdoor garden in my backyard. Last year I was sucessful with my fruits and veggies and I'd like to add some chickens. Do you have any suggestions on the type of hens I should buy? I think Im most interested in the eggs, fertilizer and pest control factors. Also, I just think they're super cute animals. What are your thoughts on the most effecient coop type?

Thanks for your help!

Hi Meghan:

Where in BK are you? Im on Flushing Ave in Bushwick. You are welcome to pss by any time and see what Ive come up with as far as a coop is concerned.

As for the chickens, Id say it depends on the size of the coop vs the amount you want to have. As for type, Id say anything youd like. I have Rhode Island Reds, White Silkies, Guneas, and English Bantams. My English Bantams are my best layers. They have been laying eggs since January, nonstop.

If youe a gardenr like me, i have on huge warning...the chickens will eat/kill many of your plants. I love to have my chickens free range but i cant afford to lose my crop. This is why i made a bigger coop this year so they have more room.

There is a lot to learn about chickens and their coop, Ill be glad to help.
