Hi to all from Burns Lake, British Columbia, its a small village (2200 people) in rural Northern BC. I am new to the chicken world but I've been following the different threads here on BYC for some time. Recently (4 days recently) became the proud parent of 25 Plymouth Barred Rock pullets and I am loving every minute of it. Right now we have them set up in a brooder in the garage, where they will hopefully live for the next few weeks. Their arrival has made this thing real so now I have to stop procrastinating and finish converting a shed into the coop!

So far things have been going relatively smoothly, the occasional case of pasty butt that we have been dealing with daily, so fingers crossed.

Here are my girls!

Welcome to BYC! I have one Barred Rock...now a hen. I can only imagine what 25 will look like! A herd of zebras!
re pasty butt, make sure it isn't too warm in the brooder, that they can get away from the heat.
Good luck!
Sue

Hello and welcome to BYC and congrats on your littles!

You'll find lots of info in the Learning Centre - https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/category/learning-center.11/ and if you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads. There are some good articles on how to raise chicks, which may helpful to you in there.

Ok, our links are back up (BYC has just undergone a major transition) so here are some links that may be interesting:

Hey DiveJedi, it looks like you are off to a good start with your chicks. Congratulations on your Barred Rocks. They are gorgeous.

Hello there and welcome to BYC! :frow

Congrats on your new chicks! As mentioned above, too hot, too cold, or even stress can cause pasty butt. It happens with a lot of chicks. I like to use probiotics in my chicks water right from the start to help with digestion and the immune system.

Good luck with your babies and welcome to our roost! :)

Boy are you going to be getting eggs right & left , once they start laying. You can bribe a lot of neighbors with them. Better yet you can get them all started with hens of their own.
