Hi everybody!
I'm Tammy and I'm from Central California.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I've had chickens off and on all my life along with a wide variety of other animals.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I have 9 chickens right now, but am building an incubator and will be hatching eggs in the Spring.
(3) What breeds do you have?
I have 7 Buff Orpingtons (trying to rehome 3 extra roos) and I swapped a pair of Buffs with a friend who is crossing a Black Orp Roo with SLW Hens and making some beautiful Blue Orps with Pea Combs, so I have a pair of Blue OrpDottes?
I would have had 6 more Buff hens, but a 6 foot King Snake got into my brooder when they were all about a week old and ate his fill. And yes, I'm going to be incubating and brooding in the house from now on.
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
Okay so I've been lurking and reading without registering til today, you caught me! I don't have the slightest idea how I got here but I love it!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I have chickens and no tv, who has time for hobbies? LOL. But I do grow organic veggies, fruit and flowers and cook and do the occasional cross stitch.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I have a very patient and tolerant Hubby of 6 years who always helps me with my hairbrained animal and garden projects.
We have a 3 pound Long Hair Chihuahua named Princess Sweet Pea who is Queen mother and ruler of all she surveys, including our 20 pound cat Mortimer!
Then there is Rusty, a Blue-Front Amazon parrot who I got when he was 6 months old and is now 22 years old. He has a vocabulary bigger than mine, (300+ words, phrases & songs) and he can sing better than I can too.
Last and smallest are the Mr. & Mrs. Jabber, who are Parakeets and can say almost as many things as Rusty, but ONLY what Rusty says, they never repeat anything I say to them.
My husband and I are both disabled and do not work regular jobs but there is plenty of work we do here at home. We live in a small house on 10 acres of sand and gophers.
