Welcome from Southern California! My Light Brahmas are pretty calm and usually quiet, except when they lay eggs. And one of them occasionally tells the rest of the flock when it's time to head in to the coop for the night. My Cuckoo Marans are pretty calm and quiet as well, but I also agree with Sumi's advice. Good luck and have fun!

Welcome to the site. I am new to the site and from Calvert. I grew up with chickens and looking to start raising some layers very soon.

Wow....been busy! My brother-in- law had something eating up his small flock. Only one chicken left so we brought her home with herclutch of 18 eggs. The three golden comets copped a tude and she refused to sit. We had to get rid of them. Then we went to the poultry swap and I got five little pullets. They turned into teradactyls when thet discovered mealies. We have been chasing those little suckers with a crab net, hollering at the chihuahua and great dane to get back ever since! I didn't realize hiw much work this chichickeneering is! I finally got beetles from the mealies I hatched...forgot the next step. Poultry swap was great fun. Anybody else go?
