We've had chickens for quite some time now, everything has been going reasonably well (but not considered a pro). We have 8 chickens, 1 rooster, I have just replaced the old chicken nest with a new one which has a 10° slope towards the rear where I collect all the eggs. THe floor is lined with rubber on top of bubble wrap to help prevent any breakage of the eggs.

There is only one issue I am currently trying to combat - there is one chicken that insists on laying eggs with no shell. I just had the opportunity of witnessing this about 1 hour ago, which is why I'm here. I picked up the chicken and as it stayed there, perched on my finger, I fed it some broken egg shells from my palm (from breakfast) so we'll see if this changes anything within a couple days...

Don't know about the shelless eggs. Maybe the chicken is just wired that way. Good luck.

Imp- Glad you joined

That's what I think, which is why I fed the shells (I'm still trying to figure out the part about the chicken sitting on my hand with no problems)

Hopefully if that trick works, I'll increase the calcium supply in the feed. It already has oyster shells, but then it's the only chicken that does this...

Is your hen just starting to lay eggs? I've heard this can happen and should clear up on its own. Its probably a good idea to keep up with the calcium though.

Welcome for Northern California. Might want to try some Oyster shell. I keep some available at all times in a separate dish. I had one egg recently that was completely shelled except for a quarter size soft spot on one side. - It was weird. Good luck.
