some people plant a chicken garden that the birds are allowed to enjoy. It can be as simple as growing some greens in a wire garden bed of sorts where the chickens can only eat what sticks out or up from the wire - that way they cannot disturb the roots. They get to enjoy some of the plantings without killing the plants
