(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I’ve raised chickens since I was 10 years old , which makes me in this business 30 years now lol! Started as my first legitimate job, a friend and I bought 30 RIR chicks, 25 bronze turkeys 100 quail 30 assorted ducks and 20 assorted geese. And we figured we would be ready to retire in just a few short years lol!
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We currently have about 75
(3) What breeds do you have?
30 rare Color Brahmas, focusing on the Splash, Lemon Chiffon, and Blue Isabell’s. 20 RIR hens, 20 Jersey Giants (Black & White) and just a handful of Blue Laced Wyandotte’s. 15 Mallard Ducks and 8 White Chinese Geese
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Love teaching our local 4H kids about poultry and always a plus to have fresh eggs and they keep the bugs down!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I compete in Cuttin, Reining Cowhorse, and Team Rope as well as train & show Quarter Horses, Registered Hereford Cattle and Hereford Hogs. Also hunt and fish as much as I can!
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I’m a 4th Generation registered Hereford breeder raising Seedstock and show cattle and raise and train Quarter Horses for ranch work and competition in Cutting, Reining Cowhorse and Roping. We also have a Free Equine Therapy Clinic for Special needs Kids, Teens, Young Adults & Veterans. I am married and have 2 children at home and 1 that is a young adult living On our other ranch.
