We began our little chicken family almost one year ago with eleven 2 day old chicks (leghorns?) that were hatched by someone trying out a new incubator. Six turned out to be roosters, which were rehomed, the five hens began laying in early June and they continue to be daily layers of big, beautiful cream to tan eggs. We added two Easter Egger pullets and a roo in August and got our first blue eggs the day after Christmas. We set thirteen blue eggs twenty days ago and at 8:20 PM today, our first lil EE pipped, zipped, and waddled out of the shell. (The grandkids named "him" Pooh) How exciting for all of us- the kids and grandkids, even my coworkers have been cheering! At this hour, three chicks are hatched, and at least two more have began to pip. Fingers crossed, we have a healthy little brood. We're looking forward to setting more eggs for the Easter Hatchathon.
