Hello Everyone. I am so happy to have found and now joined BYC. I have lurked for about a year while deciding if we should take the chicken plunge! My husband Bo and I decided to go for it and he just made me a brooder. Our neighbor has chickens and has also been a lot of help as well as sharing those great fresh eggs on occasion.
Thank you for all the great info we've found already.
So here goes:

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
yes/ 2 days ago
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
8
(3) What breeds do you have?
2-Easter Eggers, 2-Cuckoo Marans, 1-Buff Orp., 1-Silverlaced Wyandotte, 1-Welsummer, 1-Barred Rock
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
googling chicken questions
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
All things Native American and community service
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I have 2 grown daughters but no grand kids yet. So its just the 2 of us with our 2 dogs. Sadie is our 7 yo Aussie and Hpi is our 2 year old Basset Hound. Hpi means "something that hangs" in the Lakota language. :)
I'm an RN and also a PhD candidate in Clinical Psychology. And most relevantly- I am so loving our little girls. Is this what it feels like a little bit to be a gramma? lol

Hello and :welcome
You sound like you lead a very interesting life! Looking forward to hearing more about your experiences. :D How are the chicks getting on so far? You'll sure be glad you decided to go for them, raising chickens is great fun. Enjoy the site, and see you round!

Wait until one of the girls decide to voluntarily hop up onto your leg or lap and take a nap! It has a strange way of making a person feel sooo important lol! The "central coast" caught my eye. Me, my wife and four kids just moved to Iowa from the North bay but spent a lot of time in Moneterey county and SLO. Beautiful area but we're loving Iowa! Congratulations on the chicks!
